Liminal Animal
Lucy Powell
2008/2014

Over a number of years Lucy Powell
collected the white whiskers shed
by her cat. For »Liminal Animal« she
arranged them in a 360 degree radius
on black velvet in an oval frame. In
reference to the way cats use their
whiskers to navigate space their tips
touch the edges of the frame. The
work is an edition that is dependent
on the natural shedding of whiskers
over time. Shown side by side in the
»Biographies« exhibition, two versions
of the piece (2008 and 2013) portray
this period of time in a cat‘s life.
